  1. As several on DoC’s re-posting of your news have noticed, the now available Martin’s ad (effective tomorrow) is showing the same gift cards not earning the 20% off, but 5x in fuel points…. (nothing about a $20 coupon) Would be pleasantly shocked if we’d get both….. (5x + 20% coupon)

ps, the math on the Martin’s 5x, best case as I see it: Buy $200 of the easier to resell gc’s (say, Lowe’s or Macy’s) Cost of re-selling – $10 per $100. $20 cost to get $50 off at the pump. (assuming 25 gal. max fill-up) Of course, if you have use for any of the gc’s, no cost then. (unless you’re giving up discounts you could/can get elsewhere)

ps#2: You and Doc are presuming that the promotion will apply to all gift cards, presumably DoC says by past experience. I think you guys are confusing this with Kroger’s. To the contrary, Martin’s has been very specific in every promotion I recall…. (with the promos being very precisely restricted to the gift cards listed) I will be delighted to be shown incorrect this time.

  3. Thanks for the advance alert and the image of the pending ad. Yet it’s curious. We’re to “save $20 on your NEXT shopping order?” Wow. Is this the lesson Giant/Martins/S&S learned from last week’s chaos? (where it wasn’t at all clear that it was one gift card per transaction) Now it appears that one earns a single discount across two separate transactions. Buy the card in the first, THEN buy your groceries for the second. ooookay. Quite a pain. So will this be in the form of $20 loaded to the account, or in the form of a coupon? And if it’s loaded to the account….. what will happen if we say buy several of these cards, each in separate transactions? Will these $20 discounts be handled cumulatively?

No doubt the wizards coming up with this were trying to get gc buyers to buy more groceries…. I get that. (Yet I much prefer just getting the straight discount on the card…. Kroger style)

    • Partial answer to one of my own question. I now surmise in re-reading the ad top line that we’ll get some sort of $20 coupon via the receipt for the gift card — to then use towards groceries on a future purchase. 🙂 Thanks again.
