Avios Are Now Posting From That Amazing Iberia Promo

About two weeks ago I wrote about a promotion from Iberia that could get you up to 90,000 bonus Avios. You needed to book 10 one way flights, and you get 9,000 bonus Avios for each flight. You would basically purchase Avios for less than 0.3 cents each if you jumped on it early, or slightly more if you booked on the last day like me.

The promotion was a bit too good to be true. But a few Iberia reps had confirmed that they would pay out the bonus Avios even if you didn’t take those booked flights. In the last few days we saw reports of issues coming up. Some accounts were locked. These were mainly new accounts, and some people were asked to provide identification confirming the account info. Some people who booked from ineligible countries were told that they wouldn’t get bonus points. So understandably people started getting nervous, wondering if Iberia would really honor the promotion.

But fear no more. Bonus Avios are starting to come in as expected, although a bit late for some people who booked on the first day of the promotion. I booked on the last day, so I don’t have any points yet. But hopefully some of you already have them in your accounts.

Update: I did get my points:

Guru’s Wrap-Up

It was a bit of a gamble, so I only booked 10 flights from one account. I’m sure some people have used more accounts for their family members, and booked more flights. Accounts that were locked are still locked, but that should be resolved soon I believe, as long as everything is legit.

Hopefully you can all book some great trips. Just make sure to book by December 1, 2018. You can fly at a later date, but the booking should be done within the deadline.

Let me know how you plan to use your Avios! Maybe you can help other readers with some ideas.
