Amazon has partnered with Marriott to help increase guest access to amenities with Alexa, through its voice-controlled device Echo, in an attempt to expand its presence in the hospitality industry. The partnership that was announced today will add Amazon Echo smart speakers into a select number of rooms. Guests can use the Alexa-enabled device to order room service, turn on the lights, set alarms, notify housekeeping, ask for hotel information, call the front desk, play music and other typical Alexa functions.
The partnership will start this summer at Marriott’s select properties and the service will be available by invitation to other hotel chains. Marriott didn’t specify how many rooms will get the voice-controlled gadget, but said it will be rolling out across its family of brands, including Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels, St. Regis, Aloft and Autograph Collection Hotels.
According to CNBC, Marriott had tested both Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa to select what was best suited for its hotels.
