Visa was experiencing a service disruption in some parts of Europe today. Many merchants and consumers have been reporting that they cannot use or accept Visa-branded credit and cards. Some businesses were posting sign telling customers to either use cash or cards offered by Mastercard or American Express.

The scale of the issue is currently unclear with Visa currently “investigating” the problem which started at around 4pm on Friday, but has ruled out a cyber-hack.
“We are currently experiencing a service disruption which is preventing some Visa transactions in Europe from being processed,” Visa said in a statement. “We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation. We will keep you updated.”
There’s chaos at many merchants, such as supermarkets. It’s not clear how long it will take for this mess to clear up.
