Cathay Pacific 35k bonus

Offer & Requirements

The Cathay Pacific Visa Credit card, which launched in February 2018, is running a promotion that will allow new customers to earn 35,000 Bonus Asia Miles when you spend $2,500 in the first 90 days of opening an account.

Annual fee of $95 is waived for first year for cardholders who apply between January 16 and March 31, 2018.

Card Benefits

  • Earn 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US.
  • New members will enjoy a complimentary Green membership to the Marco Polo Club for the first year of enrollment.
  • Enjoy 2-day priority redemption for discount flight award booking tickets online from time to time.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Offer Analysis

This is a decent bonus if you’re looking for Asia Miles, so if this card was on your radar, this is a good time to apply. Spending requirement is reasonable and the card is issued by Synchrony Bank which issues mainly retailer cards. They are pretty lenient with approvals so most people with a good credit shouldn’t have any issues.

Some of the highlights of this card, besides the 35K bonus, are that it earns 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US. This could be a good option for people who travel often abroad and have lots of spending in non bonused categories. You also receive complimentary Green membership to the Marco Polo Club for the first year of enrollment. There’s usually a $100 to join, and membership give you the ability to redeeem miles for lounge access and other perks. Sadly you only get the free membership for the first year, and you have to pay $100 the following year. At least a discount would have made sense.

When it comes to redeeming miles for award flights, their chart is distance based.

If you need more miles, you can transfer points from Starwood Preferred Guest, American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou programs.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is a good offer, and it probably makes sense to get this card for the signup bonus if you’re in need of Asia Miles. The card comes with a few perks, but nothing groundbreaking that would entice anyone to apply. We saw a better offer of 50K bonus miles last year, but you had to pay the annual fee. Now you save $95 and get 15K miles less.

You can always get extra Asia Miles by transferring points from major rewards programs, so that should help with redemptions.
