Chase Restricts Sapphire Family Cards To One Per 24 Months

Chase has updated terms on the application page of the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve credit cards. They have added new restrictions that now only allow you to have one Sapphire product bonus every 24 months.

chase new 24 month sapphire restriction

Here’s the new language:

This product is available to you if you do not have any Sapphire card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for any Sapphire card in the past 24 months. If you are an existing Sapphire customer and would like this product, please call the number on the back of your card to see if you are eligible for a product change. You will not receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products.

This is bad news for many people who want both the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve. The new rule is similar to what Citi has on most of their credit cards, but at least in the Chase new rule, closing a card doesn’t reset the clock.
