Staples, Get $20 Rebate On $300+ Visa Gift Cards Plus Amex Offer Or 5X UR (5/21-5/27)

Starting on Sunday 5/21/17 through 5/27/17, Staples is offering another $20 Visa Prepaid Card via easy rebate when you purchase $300 or more in Visa gift cards. The $20 rebate will already give you a small profit, but when combined with one of the Chase Ink cards [5X Ultimate Rewards], Amex SimplyCash [5% back] or if you have the Staples Amex Offer the deal becomes much better.

The deal is valid in store only. You can only receive one rebate per household, so you might need the help of friends and relatives to use more than one address when you fill out the rebate forms online. The $20 gift cards are issued by Metabank and can be used for everyday purchases anywhere.

You’re limited to $2,000 in gift card purchases every day, including the fees.

How To Get Rebate

If your purchase includes at least $300 in Visa gift cards during the promotion period, an additional rebate receipt will print out when the order is completed. The rebate information is also printed at the bottom of your regular receipt.

Save one of the receipts and fill out the rebate form online here, to receive your $20 Visa Gift Card. Choose ‘In a STORE’, enter the Easy Rebate ID from your receipt and then fill out your information on the next page. It will take a few weeks for the $20 Visa Gift Cards to arrive in the mail.

How to Maximize Profits

The best way to maximize the offer, would be to purchase two $200 VGCs for every transaction. The total cost will be $413.90 and you’ll already make a profit of $6.10 after the $20 rebate. But on top of that you will also receive 2,070 Chase UR points if you’re using your Chase Ink cards.

You could also purchase a $200 card and a $100 card to trigger the rebate. You would save $1 but you would lose out on 500 Ultimate Rewards points on the extra $100 in spend.

Using Staples Amex Offer

This time around you could do even better if you were targeted for this generous Amex Offer for Staples. This offer gives you 2,000 MR points on a purchase of $100 or more. So if you purchase $300 worth in Visa gift cards ($200+$100), it would cost $312.90 and you would make $7.10 after rebate and 2,313 MR points. If you have the Amex Offer on more than one card you can try doing a split payment and you’ll receive 4,313 MR points instead, for the same purchase.

  1. MPD reported Staples hardcoded very recently stopping GC to GC purchases 😦 I’m glad I drained a lot last week so I don’t have to sell the StaplesGC at a loss just to monetize them. I’ll find out if the hardcoding is regional or hopefully, if you get a cooperative cashier who knows how to push the right buttons, maybe…just maybe…I can drain this $20 GC. If not, it’s no big deal since it’s the only one I got now.

    • I’m glad to report that IT IS NOT HARDCODED to ALL STAPLES to disallow acceptance of Staples GC as payment for VGCs. I tried it today at my go-to store, swiped the GC but cashier asked for it to swipe on her horizontal swiper and it went through. I may have “lost” 100 UR pts on the $20 but I’ve gained more since I don’t really shop at Staples except for VGCs on sale. My back-up plan was to re-sell the Staples GC for $16 (20% loss from full value).

It is ALWAYS best to try it at OUR own stores first if there are reports of hardcoding. Chances are it’s regional and your store isn’t affected. Then don’t tell others where your store is, so they don’t flock to it. LOL
