Barclay Choice Privileges Visa, 40K Bonus After $1K Spending

The Barclay Choice Privileges Visa Signature Card has a new best ever limited time bonus that can earn you up to 5-6 free nights at their low end properties. The card doesn’t have an annual fee.

Barclay Choice Privileges 40K

Barclay Choice Privileges Card 40K Bonus

Earn 40,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days, enough points for up to 5 free nights! Offer ends May 31, 2017.

You also earn 8,000 anniversary bonus points every year you spend $10,000 or more on purchases with your card by your account anniversary date—enough points for up to 1 free night!

Bonus Points will be awarded at the close of the billing statement after the qualifying transaction(s) have posted. This is much better than the previous offer that required a paid stay for most of the bonus.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age. This offer is available only to applicants who are residents of the United States, with the exception of Puerto Rico and the US territories,  and may not be available if you already have or have had an account with us. If at the time of your application you do not meet the credit or income criteria previously established for this offer, or the income you report is insufficient based on your current obligations,    we may be unable to open an account for you, or you may receive a Platinum card. Platinum benefits differ from Signature benefits.

Choice Privileges Loyalty Program

Choice Privileges loyalty program is a bit different from other programs and a bit confusing. There’s no rewards chart as far as I know but you can still check the rate for any hotel at their website. Just select your destination and preferred dates and select “Choice Privileges Reward Night” in the drop down menu.

You might not find anything decent at that rate stateside, but there’s some great properties overseas that surely are worth it. There’s actually some properties that can be booked at 6,000 a night. Now you can also use Points Plus Cash for reward nights starting at just 6,000 points plus cash.

The worst part is availability. Mainly because you can’t book more than 30 days prior to planned arrival. With this card you have Elite Gold Status, so that gives you 50 days, but it’s still not a lot of time when you’re planning a vacation.

In the US there’s not many opportunities for great redemptions. But you can find good properties for 8,000 points in Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Prague, Japan etc. Also check their points forfeiture policy here.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is the highest bonus I have seen for this card. The previous bonus gave you only 32,000 Choice points after spending $1,000, so now you’re getting one extra free night at low end properties. This is a good bonus for a no fee card and the spending requirement is achieveble for everyone. Just make sure you check your booking optins before applying and see if it is a good value for you.

  4. I know a lot of people will pass on this and it is not worth it for some creepy hotels stateside. But 8K a night for a hotel in Paris for example (not best location) easily makes this a $500+ bonus. And it’s from Barclays
