Newark Liberty is one of the three big New York City-area airports, but access for “new entrant” carriers has been virtually impossible in recent years. That changed in April after the Federal Aviation Administration announced it would ease “slot” restrictions at Newark for flights after Oct. 30. WOW Air and Allegiant Air already took advantage of this, and now Alaska Airlines in jumping on it too.
Alaska Air Group Inc announced yesterday that it is expanding to the New York City area with multiple new routes to Newark Liberty International Airport. There will be new service from Newark, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon and San Diego, California starting from November 2016. In March 2017 new service will begin to to San Jose, California.
Third daily departure from Seattle, Washington to Newark, New Jersey will be added in May 2017.
