Hotel chains are trying to get customers to book directly with them, cutting the middleman, and they’re rolling out offers make it worthwhile. Marriott started the “It Pays to Book Direct” campaign last year, to show that they Online Travel Agencies don’t always have the best prices.
Now Marriott is taking an extra step. Beginning in April 2016, Marriott is introducing Marriott Rewards Member Rates, a new rate exclusively designed to reward loyalty members who book directly on Marriott.com, Marriott app, call centers or through select corporate travel professional.
There’s no mention of what these member rates will be. We’ll know more once April comes around, but most likely they will do something similar to Hilton. They started offering 10% discounts for booking direct earlier this year.
Marriott already offers a “best price guarantee”. If a guest finds a better rate within 24-hours of booking direct, Marriott matches and provides an additional 25% discount, which is pretty generous. Read full press release here.
