UPDATE: As of 9:47 a.m. the ground stop has been lifted for United flights by the FAA. The grounding lasted for an hour and 20 minutes. FAA had announced the grounding at 8:26 a.m. ET.
If you have a United flight scheduled today you’re out of luck. All United flights have been grounded nationwide and there’s a massive system failure to blame. The delays are likely to have a domino effect on flights later in the day as United works to resolve the issue.
Social media is lighting up with complaints following the unusual delay. Passengers affected by the outage have few options but to wait it out, even though there’s no time frame on when the flights will resume. United said it is working on resolving the issue.
A similar outage impact United on June 2 when all of the carrier’s flights were grounded for about an hour due to a problem with “dispatching information,” the airline told WIRED.
