Chase Corrects 1099s for Marriott Boundless Card Free Nights Bonus

1099-MISC for Marriott Boundless Free Nights Offer

🔃 Update: Chase has started sending out corrected 1099s with a $0 amount.

Chase is sending out some unexpected forms 1099-MISC for last year’s Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card bonus of 5 or 3 Free Nights.

Normally credit card bonuses are not taxed, since they are considered rewards. There are some rare exceptions for credit card bonuses that don’t have a spending requirement, such as the Chase Amazon card for example. But the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless offer has a spending requirement of $5,000.

But Chase is sending out 1099-MISC to many customers who applied for that Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card last year, with varying amount of $400-$500 in taxable income. And they seem to be reporting similar amounts in income even if you applied for the 3 Free Nights offer, which doesn’t make much sense.

Did you apply for one of these Marriott Boundless offers? Did you get a 1099-MISC? Let me know in the comments!
