Discover announced that on September 16, cardmembers will be able to add their Discover cards to Apple Pay. While that is nice news, here comes the great part. Discover is rewarding cardmembers in the U.S. who use their Discover cards through Apple Pay with a 10% Cashback Bonus.

From September 16, to the end of the year, cardmembers who pay with their Discover card using Apple Pay will automatically earn an extra 10% Cashback Bonus on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases. Discover it Miles, Miles and Escape cardmembers will earn an extra 10 miles per dollar on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.
This could be even greater news for those who have the Double Cash Back offer on their Discover It cards. The $1,000 extra cash back that you’ll be able to make until the end of the year, should be doubled, since this was confirmed as “everything doubled” by Discover reps in the past. If you don’t have a Discover It card then you should definitely sign up. With my referral link you get $50 after first purchase (doubled in a year), and I get $50 as well (my mom will actually, since I already reached my limit of 10 referrals).
In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, as well as iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, upon availability. You’re out of luck if you have an Android phone like me, but maybe you could use a friend’s or family member’s phone and add your card to their Apple Pay. Or you could buy an iPhone and still come out a winner.
Discover is surely living up to it’s recent title as America’s Best Credit Card Company.
How To Add a Discover Card to Apple Pay
After upgrading for free to iOS 9, Discover cardmembers can go to the Wallet app to get started. If cardmembers already have a Discover card on file with iTunes, all they need to do is enter the security code, or they can choose to add a new Discover Card.
Offer Details
- 10% Cashback or 10x miles on up to $10,000
- Offer ends 12/31/2015
- Valid for in-store purchases only
Update
I missed the “extra” part on the 10% cash back (maybe I was just a bit too excited while typing up the post) which would make it 11% cashback on everything as DoC points out. Also Milesperday has confirmed with Discover that as expected, it will be doubled in a year. That’s a whopping 22% back on $10,000. That’s $2,200 per Discover card. Just amazing!!!
